How do I get my business to show up on Google?
Three things: a Google Business Profile, which is free, a website that names your services and your town, and reviews. Set up right, a small business can start showing up in local searches within weeks.
Step one: claim your Google Business Profile
This is the listing with the map, the hours, and the reviews. It is free, and it is the single biggest factor in showing up for 'near me' searches. Search for your business name on Google. If a listing exists, claim it. If not, create one at business.google.com. Google will verify you, usually by phone, text, or a short video.
Step two: fill in every field
Half-finished profiles get half the results. At minimum:
- The right primary category. 'Plumber', not 'Contractor'. This one field matters more than any other.
- Every service you want calls for, listed in the words customers use.
- Real photos of your work, your truck, and you.
- Hours that are actually true, including holidays.
- The towns you serve, with your home town listed first.
Step three: a website that says the same thing
Google reads your site to confirm what the profile claims. A page for each service and each town you work in gives it something to confirm. Your phone number and business name should match the profile exactly.
Step four: reviews
Reviews are a big part of how Google decides who ranks. Ask every customer, the same day the job wraps, with a direct link. Then reply to each one.
How long it takes
A verified profile can show up on the map within days. Ranking above the established competition takes months of steady work. If you would rather not do it yourself, this is exactly what the Growth plan covers.
